French Broad River MPO

The French Broad River MPO has last adopted its Coordinated Public Transportation-Human Services Transportation Plan update in 2008.  The Rural Planning Organization has adopted a CPT-HST Plan update in 2009. It is a federal requirement for the MPO CTP-HST Plan to be updated every five years.

In winter-March 2012, MPO staff will be working on an  update of the CPT-HST Plan for the three-county MPO region including Buncombe, Haywood and Henderson.

Next steps:

• Collecting vehicle inventory data and operating statistics data from transit operators-in progress
• Setting up stakeholder meetings in each county-in progress
• Holding public input meetings to solicit the general public for transportation needs and barriers ideas
• Review of the draft plan and adoption by the MPO Board (TAC) expected on March 29, 2012 (meeting at Land-of-Sky offices, 12:30 PM)
• FBRMPO call for JARC/New Freedom projects planned to be released March 8th, 2012;  projects will be due to be submitted by March 28th, 2012

• Buncombe County Public Input meeting: January 24th, 1:00 PM-5:00 PM, Lord's Auditorium at the Downtown Asheville Library
• Buncombe County Public Input meeting-second session during the Green Drinks on February 1st, 5:30-7:00 PM at Posana Cafe, Downtown Asheville
• Haywood County Public Input meeting: February 7th, 1:00 PM-4:00 PM, Haywood Community Connections, 81 Elmwood Way off of Dellwood Road in Waynesville
• Henderson County Public Input meeting: February 14, 9:30 AM-12:30 PM, Hendersonville Library at 301 N. Washington Street

Human Services Transportation (HST) are services for
distinct population groups who are identified as the
“transportation disadvantaged”, including persons with
disabilities, older adults, and persons with low income.

The CPT-HST Plan update is federally-required and will help the region identify the existing gaps in the current transportation system, and prioritize projects to improve accessibility and increase mobility options.
