19^th NCAMPO Conference “Sustainable Transportation for the New Normal” opens the third decade of North Carolina transportation planning conferences jointly organized by the North Carolina Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations and North Carolina Association of Rural Planning Organizations.

As we are facing the challenging reality of “New Normal”, it is even more important to fine-tune the tools of the trade. Project prioritization, system optimization, complete streets, multi-modal solutions and alternative fuels can maximize the value of transportation investments, to help our communities kick-start a new economic paradigm. Come to beautiful Western North Carolina to talk about the future of sustainable transportation planning!

Sessions: session proposal period is now closed. We are currently reviewing submitted presentation proposals under the following categories:

Modeling, Census Data and GIS
Innovations in ITS, Traffic Operations, Toll Projects and Corridor Planning
Public Participation, Environmental Justice, Title VI, Limited English Proficiency
Livability, Transit, Complete Streets, Bicycle and Pedestrian Issues
Project Prioritization and Financing (to include SPOT 3 sessions)

Mobile Workshops will take place on Thursday, May 3rd. The following mobile workshops have been identified:

Asheville Transit Tour (by bus, free)
Alternative Transportation Fuels (by van, $25)
Asheville Bicycle Infrastructure (by bike, $25 includes bike rental)
Historic Asheville Walking Tour (on foot, $10)
LaZoom City Wide Comedy Tour of Asheville Neighborhoods ($20, payable day of event)

The Model Users Group meeting will take place on the morning on Wednesday, May 2^nd, from 9 AM-12:00 Noon.

MPO and RPO business meetings will take place on Wednesday morning from 11:00 to 1:00 PM, to be followed by the General Opening Session at 1:30 PM.

Break-out Sessions will take place on Thursday, May 3rd
