French Broad River MPO, in collaboration with the Land of Sky RPO, Land of Sky Area Agency on Aging and Mountain Mobility hosted a half-day mobility summit on September 19th. The event was titled “Community Connections-Transportation Options for All Ages” and highlighted the increase in aging population in our region and various transportation modes and tools available that can serve people of all ages. Approximately 60 participants came out to the event and learned more about complete streets, ADA requirements for sidewalks and crosswalks, the link between transit stops and the need for safe pedestrian facilities, and other transportation issues and strategies. Speakers included transportation planning experts such as Janet Barlow with Accessible Design for the Blind and local government staff members sharing their recent projects and achievements. Transit agencies and several organizations were tabling at the event, including Asheville Transit, Apple Country Transit, Mountain Mobility, Liberty Bicycles, Buncombe County Culture Change in Aging Network, Council on Aging “Call a Ride” Program and Outride Bikes.
