The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), with assistance from the French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the
The plan encompasses highway, transit, and bicycle planning, and replaces NCDOT thoroughfare plans for municipalities. The pedestrian portion of the plan is expected to be added at a later date. This is NCDOT’s first plan considering the three counties as one region, and is based on a regional travel demand model first presented in July 2006. Public comments were accepted on the draft plan in August and September of 2007. Click here to read public comments.
The Transportation Advisory Committee adopted the Comprehensive Transportation Plan maps at their November 15, 2007 regular meeting. Before that action, they held a public hearing on Thursday, November 8.

The North Carolina Board of Transportation approved the maps on January 10, 2008.

The maps for the Comprehensive Transportation Plan are available here for downloading, viewing and printing. Each set of county maps includes insets with a closer view of more dense areas.
Map Viewing Tips: Please note that the "Overview" maps are harder to read because they cover a bigger area. For a better view, open the county-level maps, or find the inset map that covers an area of particular interest. Also, after you have opened the maps in Adobe Reader, use the zoom tool to make the maps larger. You can zoom in by using the small button with a plus sign, or by using the drop-down menu next to the box that shows the percent that you are zoomed in (the default is for the map to fit the page which is 54.3%). For the best view zoom in to 100% or greater and then use the scroll bars to move around the map. If you have any problems please call 259-5457.
