Background
The MPO is assisting the City of Asheville with their bicycle transportation plan. Toole Design Group, assisted by Livable Streets, Inc., has been contracted to create the plan with guidance from a steering committee and the public. There was an initial public open house in March 2007, where people told Toole Design representatives what was good and bad about cycling in Asheville. There was an online survey, which over 800 people completed.
Armed with that information, with much other research about conditions in the area, with the insight of the members of the steering committee, and with their considerable professional expertise, the consultants proposed draft recommendations. The recommendations were presented at a public meeting on July 26, 2007.
