About Us:

The French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is the transportation planning agency serving the urbanized areas of Buncombe County, Haywood County, and Henderson County, North Carolina.  The MPO is made up of the eighteen local governments in these three counties, plus a number of local, state, and federal agencies.  The MPO works cooperatively with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to plan improvements to the transportation system in the area.

The MPO is responsible for developing long range transportation plans, and setting local priorities for transportation improvements.  Transportation planning covers all modes of transportation including highways, public transit, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

The MPO serves as a forum for public participation.  The MPO staff, the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) and the Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC) work together with the public and other stakeholders to conduct a comprehensive, cooperative, and continuing planning process.
